GENERAL
1. Nomenclature
1.1. The Journal is captioned as, “Ethiopian Journal of Legal Studies.”
1.2. The abbreviation shall be named as ‘EJoLS’
2. Nature of the Journal
The Ethiopian Journal of Legal Studies is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes original scholarly articles on range of legal issues that address Ethiopian, international and comparative legal matters.
3. Frequency
3.1. The Journal shall be published twice in a year in January and July.
3.2. Special Issues on certain themes may be published any time.
4. Language
The Journal shall be published in English. However, manuscripts in local language may be considered for publication up on the decision of the Board of Editors.
5. Format and content
5.1. The Journal shall publish articles, essays, comments, notes, and book reviews in the area that address Ethiopian, international and comparative legal matters.
5.2. Every Journal shall be published with not less than five contributions.
6. Length of Contribution
6.1. An article may not exceed a maximum of 16,000 words including footnotes.
6.2. A case comment or essay may not exceed a maximum of 5,000 words including footnotes.
6.3. A book review may not exceed a maximum of 3,000 words.
6.4. The Editorial Board may permit exceptions to the word limit.
7. Submission of Contribution
A contribution to the Journal shall be sent via email as a Microsoft word document to the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal at ejols.ecsu@ecsu.edu.et
8. Review Process
8.1. A contribution to the Journal shall be published when:
8.1.1. The Editorial Board decides for internal review of the manuscript submitted based on preliminary assessment (Appendix A);
8.1.2. It is positively assessed by one anonymous internal reviewer based on the review criteria (Appendix B);
8.1.3. It is positively assessed by anonymous external reviewer based on the review criteria (Appendix B);
8.1.4. It incorporates comments of reviewers, and
8.1.5. It is approved by the Editorial Board.
8.2. A contribution shall be sent to a third external reviewer when the two reviewers disagree on the publishability of the contribution.
8.3. The third external reviewer’s decision on the publishability shall be final.
